Finca Morneta: marrying in a 13th-century Mallorcan estate. And the night before, in Palma.

Some venues are chosen for the photograph, others for the story. Morneta has both. Here's what the estate is like, and why the eve of so many of its weddings is celebrated in a windmill in Santa Catalina.

This guide is written by SĀNTAL. Morneta isn't ours: it's an estate we admire and share couples with. The details about the estate come from its official website, morneta.es.

Almost a thousand years at the heart of the island

Finca Morneta is a Mallorcan possessió, a historic country estate, in Binissalem, the wine town of the island's central plain, about twenty minutes from Palma. Morneta was already the name of the farmstead when James I conquered Mallorca in 1229. Some remains in its buildings may be even older, from the 11th century, and its land carries traces of Talaiotic, Roman, Islamic and Aragonese Mallorca.

For more than seven hundred years it belonged to the Gual de Torrella family. You feel it the moment you arrive: this isn't a farmhouse converted for events, it's a house that has watched the island's history go by and has recently been restored, with real care, so that all of it keeps standing in the 21st century.

A story that begins with a wedding

The loveliest thing about Morneta isn't architectural. In 1953, Alfonso Vivó i Triay bought the estate as a wedding gift for his daughter, Leonor Vivó i Squella. Exactly sixty years later, Nicolás Morell, Alfonso's great-grandson, and Lucía Doglio were married there. They are the ones who run the estate today.

In other words: the people showing you Morneta for your wedding got married in it. There are few places in Mallorca where "this house was made for celebrating" is quite so literal.

The spaces

The estate pairs generous outdoor space with three indoor rooms that carry centuries. In short:

Garden and stone rooms together give real flexibility: a big open-air summer wedding and, in cooler months or if the weather turns, an indoor plan that doesn't feel like a plan B.

The welcome party deserves a venue of its own

At a destination wedding, the big day starts the night before. Guests fly in from London, Munich, Madrid or Buenos Aires, check into Palma and see each other for the first time. Two families meet. His friends discover her friends. That evening sets the tone for everything that follows.

That's why the welcome party works best somewhere else. The estate stays reserved for the day itself, with its set-up and its surprise intact, and the eve is celebrated where the guests already are: in the city. No transfers, no coach timetable, the hotel a short walk away.

Many couples who marry at Morneta come to us on the estate's own recommendation. It makes sense.

A windmill from around 1680 in Santa Catalina

SĀNTAL occupies a 17th-century windmill, dated to around 1680, on Carrer de la Indústria in Santa Catalina, Palma's market neighbourhood and one of its liveliest. Exposed stone, a vaulted ceiling, the mill tower and a terrace that is enclosed and heated in winter.

Morneta keeps an olive press from 1729. We keep a windmill from around 1680. Two machines from the Mallorca that worked the land.

What matters for a welcome party, plainly put:

Four formats that work

Sunset welcome drinks

A standing reception on the terrace and through the rooms, finger food from our kitchen, a bar that holds its standard all evening. The format for greeting everyone without ceremony: they arrive, help themselves, mingle. Up to 130 guests.

Welcome dinner under the vault

A seated dinner for guests from abroad and close family. Long tables beneath the stone, a seasonal Mediterranean menu built on island produce. 70 to 80 covers is comfortable.

The two families' lunch

One long table in a reserved room, for 20 to 40 people. For the rehearsal, for introducing the parents, or for thanking everyone who helped make it happen.

The day-after brunch

Brunch is what we do every day, so a day-after brunch almost has to happen: specialty coffee, eggs, house pastries and sunshine in Santa Catalina, before everyone heads for their flight. The wedding at Morneta sits in the middle; Palma opens it and closes it.

How to plan it

Tell us the date of your wedding at Morneta, how many guests you expect the night before and the format you have in mind. With that we prepare a concrete proposal, not a generic rate card. If the date is free, you're welcome to visit the windmill with no commitment.

We handle event enquiries Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00, in Spanish, English and German. The quickest route is WhatsApp: +34 691 279 389. You can also email santalcafe.es@gmail.com or use the events form.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Finca Morneta?

In the municipality of Binissalem, in the centre of Mallorca, about 20 minutes from Palma according to the estate itself. It is a possessió documented since James I's conquest of the island in 1229.

What is a welcome party?

It is the celebration the night before the wedding: a welcome dinner, drinks or a sunset reception to greet guests arriving from abroad and introduce both families before the big day. At destination weddings in Mallorca it has become almost essential.

How many guests can a welcome party at SĀNTAL host?

Up to 130 guests for a standing reception, using the windmill's three rooms and terrace. A comfortable seated dinner is 70 to 80 covers, and for a family lunch of 20 to 40 people one room is enough.

Can the welcome party be on a Tuesday or Wednesday?

Yes. Private events at the windmill can take place on any day of the week, including Tuesday and Wednesday when the café is closed to the public, because they are quoted and planned in advance. They can run until midnight.

Do you also host the day-after brunch?

Yes. Brunch is what we do every day at the windmill, so a day-after brunch is a natural fit: a slow morning in Santa Catalina to see guests off before they fly home.
