When should we book the company Christmas dinner in Mallorca?
In October, and in 2026 more so than usual. There are only ten Thursdays and Fridays between 19 November and 18 December, and two Spanish public holidays — the 6th and the 8th — split the month in two, making the first week of December effectively unusable. All of the island's corporate demand concentrates on those ten dates.
The calendar detail almost no one checks
Every year, somewhere in November, someone in HR discovers there is nothing available and concludes they organised things too late. The conclusion is right; the explanation is not. Palma is not short of venues. What is short is dates.
A company dinner has to fall inside a narrow window. It has to be on a weekday — nobody wants a work event on a Saturday — which in practice means Thursday or Friday. It has to be after mid-November, because before that it does not feel like Christmas. And it has to be before 20 December, when holidays and family dinners take over.
So far, the same as every year. What changes in 2026 is what happens in the middle.
The bridge that splits December in two
In 2026, Constitution Day falls on Sunday 6 December and Immaculate Conception Day on Tuesday the 8th. Both are public holidays in Spain. Monday the 7th is left stranded between them.
The result is predictable: many companies in Mallorca will take the whole stretch from Saturday the 5th to Tuesday the 8th off — what is known here as a puente, a bridge — and a good share of staff will be away for several days.
That makes the first week of December a write-off for a company dinner. And it has a knock-on effect: Thursday the 3rd and Friday the 4th, the last dates before the bridge, become the most contested of the month. They are the days when everyone is still around and the end of the year already feels close.
If you are planning this from Munich, London or Amsterdam, this is the part worth writing down. On a German or British calendar, 6 and 8 December are perfectly ordinary days.

The 24th and 25th rule themselves out — they are Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and in 2026 they fall on a Thursday and a Friday, precisely the days that would otherwise have worked. Which makes Friday 18 December the last sensible date of the year.

If your team is flying in
One addition for companies bringing people from the mainland or from elsewhere in Europe: book the flights before the venue.
Flights into Palma fill up in exactly the same weeks as the venues do, and a date you have held with a deposit is worth nothing if half the team cannot get there at a reasonable hour. Fix the window in which everyone can actually be on the island, then choose the format — not the other way round.
Once people land, the logistics are simple: the mill is around 20 minutes from Son Sant Joan airport and 10 from the centre of Palma, where any hotel is likely to be.
Why October, when the venue only needs a few weeks
For large groups in Palma, eight to twelve months ahead is normal, and December dates close in October. But even if a venue could fit you in at two weeks' notice, there is a second clock you do not control: your own company's.
Between asking for the quote, getting it approved, having finance validate it and releasing the deposit, one or two weeks go by. The date is not lost at the venue — it is lost inside the company, while the quote travels from desk to desk. Which is why it pays to hold first and refine later: book with an estimated headcount and confirm the exact number closer to the date.
You are already in November: three levers
- Change the day before the monthA Tuesday or Wednesday in December is usually free when the Thursday of that same week is not. Nothing about the event changes; the only difference is that you need to give the team more notice, because nobody has mentally reserved a Wednesday for going out.
- Change the format before the dateA lunch or a midday drinks reception has availability when dinner does not, and for many teams it works better: nobody has to rearrange their evening, and whoever leaves at five does not feel guilty. A midday toast on 17 December is a perfectly respectable event.
- Change the space before giving upIn a venue with several rooms you do not need exclusive hire to have a private event. Booking the interior hall or the terrace opens up dates that full exclusivity no longer has, and for a group of 30 or 40 the difference is not noticeable.
What does not work is insisting on Thursday evening at the most requested venue in Palma and hoping something frees up. That is not a plan, it is a bet.
The option almost nobody considers: January
There is one way out that solves the whole problem and that very few companies think of: moving the celebration to the second half of January.
January has full availability, no calendar pressure and one genuine advantage December cannot offer: the team arrives rested from the holidays rather than worn out by the end of the year. The event stops being the last chore of an impossible December and becomes the start of the new year. If the point is for people to reconnect and begin the year well, January does it better.
